Education has been one of the most inaccessible needs for the people living in remote parts of India from the past few years. The situation has improved with the induction of technology, however, some groups still face the challenge of fulfilling this necessity. It is a lack of awareness in the remote parts of the country that motivate people living in cities to teach them and support these people in any way they can.
We had a chance to interact with a human NGO, who along with his team is working hard to serve these underprivileged children, living in a small remote village of Jharkhand by teaching them and helping them grow.
Jitesh along with his four friends and his teacher visit the village of Hathiapathar every Sunday to teach the children of the village. According to him, those children are unaware of the education system and his team is supporting them by educating them and making their lessons interesting.
The group not only focuses on teaching but is also spreading awareness of proper diet, hygiene among the elders so that they can take proper care of their children.
While they were working for the conservation of Environment in that area they observed the children of that village and their lifestyle. Thus, an idea bred in mind to make children aware of the benefits of conserving the environment and spreading awareness through education. So the group began teaching the children every Sunday to prepare them for a better living.
According to him, the government-run schools are not able to contribute enough to educate children and the private education system has its challenges of being inaccessible to all, hence the gap has to be fulfilled by someone. This motivated them to take a small step to serve humankind and make use of their life and set a motive for what to do.
Jitesh also mentions that the response they have received from the village has been favourable. There were some challenges initially, just like any new initiative takes has. However, they have seen the increase in strength of children attending their class from 10 to 30 in a matter of two months. The villagers have started cooperating and sending their children to learn.
“Now, one of the villagers give their lawn area to teach them providing with chairs and mat for the children. The children are excited for every Sunday. They enjoy it; keep on asking for the next Sunday. Our work is appreciated by the society. It seems that they are concerned about the initiative we took.” – Jitesh
The initiative is funded by their own pockets. Some of the team members work as a private tutor and contribute their hard-earned money for this cause.
The team is also looking for support of an NGO so that they can work more effectively and serve more villages. They wish to create a chain of tutors who can further mentor more number of students.
The team plans to provide education to the rural children who cannot go to school and the proper knowledge of the things as the children of government school are not taught. They also wish to spread awareness regarding child marriage and the rights children have. Along with spreading awareness they also wish to provide them with clothes and food for a proper diet. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the team also distributed ration among the poor labourers of the village.
